Where should I go on safari in Kenya?
The Maasai Mara is a strong starting point for classic wildlife viewing. Add Laikipia for rhino conservation and varied activities, Samburu for northern landscapes, or Amboseli for elephants and views towards Kilimanjaro. Choose regions for the contrast they bring, rather than trying to include every park.
When is the best time to visit?
Choose your dates around the whole journey. The Mara has resident wildlife throughout the year; migration movements depend on rainfall and grazing. A safari-and-beach trip needs a separate look at coastal rain, wind and sea conditions. Our Kenya seasonal guide compares both.
How many nights should I allow?
For a first safari, four nights in one wildlife area gives time to settle in and explore. Six to eight safari nights can allow two contrasting regions, while ten to fourteen nights gives more scope for a beach finish. What does a luxury Kenya safari cost?
As a working guide, safari nights generally start around £700 per person and beach nights around £400 per person. Season, room type and inclusions change the total; internal flights and transfers also need budgeting. Should I stay in a reserve or a private conservancy?
A private Mara conservancy can offer lower vehicle density and activities such as walks or night drives, subject to local rules and camp arrangements. The reserve may be more convenient for particular river-crossing areas. Compare the reserve and conservancies before choosing a camp.
Can I combine a Kenya safari with the beach?
