A more adventurous Kenya safari that stays north of Nairobi, pairing the private conservancies of Laikipia with Samburu’s dry-country wildlife. Five nights in Laikipia and four in Samburu give each region time to unfold.
Why this route works
This route is deliberately different from a classic Mara itinerary. It is about landscape, conservation, culture and variety: walking, riding, camel-supported outings and time with specialist guides can sit alongside conventional game drives.
When to go. Particularly rewarding in the drier months, broadly January to March and June to October. Conditions vary with local rainfall, so we match the exact sequence to the season.

Settle into one carefully chosen lodge in the wider Laikipia area, including Lewa as an option. We choose the location around your interests, with rhino tracking, walking or riding where offered. Lewa is part of this stay, rather than a separate region or additional stop.
Continue north to a different landscape of dry plains, rocky hills and the Ewaso Nyiro River. Take time for elephants, northern Kenya’s distinctive wildlife and activities offered by your chosen camp.

Guide price
Based on two adults sharing and including the listed accommodation, domestic flights, transfers, safari meals, standard shared activities and the relevant park or conservancy fees. International flights, visas, insurance and gratuities are excluded.
Travel dates, room type, conservancy and park fees, private vehicles and camp availability can change the cost materially. We will explain the trade-offs before preparing a detailed proposal.
