Lamu, Watamu and the south coast are not interchangeable. Lamu is cultural and atmospheric; Watamu combines beaches, reefs and restaurants; Diani and the south coast offer long sands and a wider choice of conventional resorts and private villas.

The long rains bring heavier showers, higher humidity and rougher spells. Some small coastal properties close temporarily.

Generally drier and cooler. July and August can be windy and some exposed beaches experience more seaweed, while sheltered locations vary.

Can we combine a Kenya safari with the beach?
Yes. Domestic flights make a safari and Kenyan coast stay a natural combination. Our Maasai Mara and Lamu example has four safari nights and six coastal nights. Available schedules and transfers determine the final route.
Should we choose Lamu, Watamu or Diani?
Lamu offers Swahili character and a slower pace. Watamu combines beaches with a relaxed town and marine activities. Diani and the south coast offer long sandy beaches and a broader hotel collection. The best choice depends on your month and the atmosphere you want.
When is the best time for safari and beach?
January to March is generally hot on the coast. April and May are wetter, while July and August can be breezier on exposed beaches. The drier safari months are popular, but conditions vary: we plan the safari and coast together rather than treat one month as ideal everywhere.
How much should we budget?
Our Maasai Mara & Lamu example starts from £5,500 per person for 10 nights, based on two adults sharing. This is an illustrative starting point, subject to availability. Dates, rooms, flights, family arrangements and private services affect the final quote. International flights are quoted separately.
How many nights should we allow?
The right length depends on your route and priorities. Allow enough nights to settle into each safari area, and avoid adding a stop simply to cover more ground. Our itinerary pages show the total length and nights in each destination; every example can be adapted.
