Children exploring the bush with local guides in Kenya

Family safaris

Kenya family
safari holidays.

Kenya is one of Africa’s strongest family safari destinations, but the right pace and guide make a far greater difference than a long list of children’s activities.

Our take

The guide matters
as much as the camp.

Kenya is one of Africa’s strongest family safari destinations, but the right pace and guide make a far greater difference than a long list of children’s activities.

We plan shorter transfers, flexible game drives and enough downtime, then choose family tents, private houses or interconnecting rooms that genuinely work for your group. A private vehicle is often worth the additional cost, particularly with younger children or a broad range of ages.

01

Private vehicles add freedom

Start later, return early or pause for a child without having to fit around other guests in a shared vehicle.

02

Age policies vary

Walking, riding and some other activities have minimum ages. Some camps also restrict very young children or require a private vehicle.

03

Fewer moves, better trip

Two contrasting safari areas are usually enough. Four nights in one place often works better than several short stays.

Build the pace around the children

A few longer stays can work better than frequent transfers. We consider ages, interests, flight timings and room sharing before choosing camps, then balance game drives with downtime and suitable activities.

Your questions

Kenya Family Safari Holidays: your questions.

Is Kenya suitable for a family safari?

Kenya offers varied wildlife, landscapes and places to stay, making it a strong family destination. The route needs to suit the children’s ages and the whole group’s interests, with manageable transfers and time to rest.

Which camps have family accommodation?

Little Elephant Pepper Camp, Offbeat Mara and El Karama are starting points to compare. Open the property pages for their room arrangements. We check availability, child policies and the exact configuration before recommending a stay.

Do we need a private safari vehicle?

A private vehicle can make safari more flexible for a family, but it is not automatically included. Requirements and charges vary by camp and the children’s ages. We confirm what is shared and what is private in your proposal.

How much should we budget?

Our Maasai Mara, Laikipia & Coast example starts from £7,500 per person for 12 nights, based on two adults sharing. This is an illustrative starting point, subject to availability. Dates, rooms, flights, family arrangements and private services affect the final quote. International flights are quoted separately.

How many nights should we allow?

The right length depends on your route and priorities. Allow enough nights to settle into each safari area, and avoid adding a stop simply to cover more ground. Our itinerary pages show the total length and nights in each destination; every example can be adapted.

How do we start planning?

Tell us your dates, party, preferred trip length, interests and approximate budget through our enquiry form. We can then arrange a phone or video call, or develop the first ideas by email if you prefer. Your proposal confirms the route, properties and inclusions.
