Our take

About Segera Retreat

Segera Retreat brings together ten villas and houses within a private Laikipia conservancy. Contemporary African art, gardens, varied accommodation and a strong conservation focus distinguish it from a conventional safari lodge, with wildlife outings balanced by dining and wellness experiences.

Segera’s guest accommodation sits within landscaped gardens, while the wider private conservancy stretches into Laikipia’s open wildlife country. Art is woven through the shared spaces, giving the retreat a creative identity alongside its conservation and community work. The experience includes time on safari but also invites guests to enjoy the gardens, food and wellness facilities. Private houses and garden villas offer different levels of space, so the chosen accommodation has a substantial influence on the stay.

01

Accommodation

Rooms

The collection comprises five Garden Villas and five private houses. Four Garden Villas are one-bedroom spaces and the fifth is a four-bedroom Family Villa. The houses include Farmhouse, Greenhouse, Garden House, Villa Segera and Segera House, each with its own layout and facilities. Villa Segera, for example, has two bedrooms and a private pool. Pools and bedroom counts vary by category; room choice should follow the specific house or villa rather than a general retreat description.

Food & drink

Dining

The kitchen draws on the retreat’s gardens and nearby farms, with meals served in varied indoor and outdoor settings. Private houses offer a more independent dining arrangement, while bush meals extend the experience into the landscape. Menus can reflect individual preferences, making food an important part of a longer stay rather than simply a pause between drives.

What to do

Activities

Wildlife drives explore Segera’s private conservancy, with walking, conservation-related experiences and community visits adding other perspectives when available. The art collection, wellness treatments and gym provide options at the retreat. The Bird’s Nest sleep-out offers a separately arranged overnight experience above the bush. Rhino and other wildlife conservation work is ongoing; sightings follow the animals’ movements and are never guaranteed.

Planning your stay

The details that make a difference.

Travelling together

The four-bedroom Family Villa and several multi-bedroom private houses offer room for families and groups. Their layouts and pool arrangements differ, so select the named accommodation carefully. Private space can support flexible meals and routines without requiring a takeover of the entire retreat.

What sets it apart

Segera combines wildlife with art, gardens and a varied collection of houses. This makes the accommodation choice part of the appeal, with scope for a more residential private stay and plenty to enjoy beyond the safari vehicle.

Before you book

Villa facilities are category-specific, particularly private pools, bedroom numbers and shared areas. A Garden Villa booking differs from a private house. Choose the accommodation alongside the guiding and dining arrangement, and reserve any sleep-out or specialist experience in advance.

Make it part of a journey

A stay shaped around you.

Segera is most rewarding when there is time for both wildlife and the retreat’s creative and wellness elements. It combines with the Mara for a broader safari, or can serve as a private Laikipia break. Start with the named villa or house that suits the group, then build the daily programme around it.
