adventures in Kenya.

Walking, riding, camel trekking and mountain biking slow the safari down and reveal details that are easily missed from a vehicle.

Our take

Movement changes
the perspective.

Walking, riding, camel trekking and mountain biking slow the safari down and reveal details that are easily missed from a vehicle.

Laikipia and northern Kenya offer the broadest choice of active experiences, while selected Mara conservancies provide guided walks alongside classic game drives. Activities depend on the property, conditions, age and experience, so we build them into the route rather than treating them as guaranteed extras.

01

Walking

From gentle bush walks to longer fly-camp journeys, always led by appropriately qualified guides.

02

Riding and camels

Sosian is particularly strong for riding, while parts of northern Kenya offer camel-supported walks and family-friendly camel outings.

03

Balance is important

Most travellers enjoy active days alongside conventional game drives, giving both close wildlife viewing and a different sense of the landscape.

Specialist planning

Make the right choices for your trip.

Choose the activity before the camp

Walking, horse riding, camel trekking and cycling are available in selected areas, with different levels of intensity. Tell us your experience and preferences so we can choose a suitable base and confirm what operates.

Explore Laikipia

Keep time for classic wildlife viewing

Active experiences can complement game drives rather than replace them. A northern Kenya stay and the Mara create different perspectives, but the transfers and number of nights need a clear purpose.

Your questions

Active & Walking Safaris in Kenya: your questions.

Can we walk on safari in Kenya?

Guided walking is offered in selected conservancies and from particular camps. Permission, guide availability, age limits and conditions vary. We confirm the arrangement for your stay before booking.

Do we need horse-riding experience?

Requirements depend on the property and ride. Some experiences need confident riders, while others may offer a different level of activity. Tell us your riding experience so we can check a suitable option with the camp.

Can active safaris work for families?

Yes, where activities suit the children’s ages and experience. We check age restrictions, supervision and alternatives, and leave room for shared wildlife viewing and quieter time at camp.

How much should we budget?

Our Laikipia & Samburu example starts from £7,500 per person for 9 nights, based on two adults sharing. This is an illustrative starting point, subject to availability. Dates, rooms, flights, family arrangements and private services affect the final quote. International flights are quoted separately.

How many nights should we allow?

The right length depends on your route and priorities. Allow enough nights to settle into each safari area, and avoid adding a stop simply to cover more ground. Our itinerary pages show the total length and nights in each destination; every example can be adapted.

How do we start planning?

Tell us your dates, party, preferred trip length, interests and approximate budget through our enquiry form. We can then arrange a phone or video call, or develop the first ideas by email if you prefer. Your proposal confirms the route, properties and inclusions.
