01

How long should you allow?

Ten to fourteen nights gives enough time for a meaningful safari and a proper coast stay. A strong outline is four to seven nights on safari followed by six or seven nights by the sea.

Trying to include too many safari areas often creates more flights, packing and early departures without materially improving the honeymoon.

02

Choosing the safari

A private Mara conservancy is particularly well suited to a honeymoon because controlled vehicle numbers, small camps, night drives and walking create a more personal experience. Laikipia is an excellent alternative or addition for varied activities and dramatic landscapes.

During the Migration months, a stay inside the reserve can be added where direct access to crossing areas is a priority.

03

Choosing the coast

Lamu offers Swahili character, small hotels, dhow sailing and a strong sense of place. Watamu suits couples who enjoy independent restaurants, reefs and a relaxed beach town. Diani and the south coast provide long beaches and a wider range of polished resorts and private villas.

The right choice depends as much on the month as on the room style.

04

Privacy that matters

We prioritise small camps, good guiding, private dining where it arises naturally and rooms with genuine seclusion. A private safari vehicle can be worthwhile, but in a low-density conservancy it is not essential for every couple.

The most memorable trips usually feel personal rather than over-produced.

05

When to travel

July is popular because of the Migration and school holidays, which means peak prices and early booking. September and October can offer a similar safari-and-beach structure with fewer family travellers.

January to March is another strong period, with warm coastal conditions and excellent resident wildlife.

06

A route we particularly like

Four nights at a small camp in a private Mara conservancy followed by six or seven nights on Lamu has excellent balance. It feels distinctly Kenyan, keeps the logistics simple and allows enough time to slow down after safari.

For couples who prefer more activity, Laikipia can be added before the Mara or used instead of it.
